Finistere is one of the best places for fishing in France. It boasts miles of coast
and fast flowing rivers, canals, lakes and reservoirs. Whatever your preference our
Gîtes at Penlan are ideally placed for your fishing holiday. It starts with a short
walk down the track to the river Douffine a popular river for fly fishing/light spinning
for Brown and Rainbow trout.
Ten minutes away the River Aulne offers miles of coarse and predator fishing and
is a good river to catch Bream, Roach, Carp, Gudgeon, and in the lower stretches
near Chàteaulin, Atlantic Salmon from mid March to September/October.
Take to the coast and try fishing for sea bass using fly, lure or bait. Surfcasting
in the summer for Gilthead sea bream; just some of the opportunities available to
you. Access to the fish is within the reach of most anglers fishing from the shorelines
of estuaries and bays around Finistere, Brittany. Sea Bass fishing is available all-year
round weather depending.
If you are looking for those specimen fish then you are better looking for guided
fishing trips as the seas around the coast can be treacherous if you don’t know what
you are doing.
Licences are not required for sea fishing and freshwater permits are readily available
from tabacs, Decathlon sporting goods stores, or local fishing association offices.
Day licences ‘carte journalière’ are available at €10 per day, and from June to September,
the one week holiday licence ‘carte vacance’ is available for €30. Some waters such
as the Reservoir St Michel require an additional permit for either day (€10) or for
those wishing to fish this lake more often, an annual permit (€20) in addition to
the departmental licence.
